Come inside and check out a couple of movies from NAGISA OSHIMA in Japan that I found while checking out a little shop.
REVIEWNG A COUPLE MOVIES FROM NAGISA OSHIMA IN JAPAN
Dear Diary – On my lazy Sunday walk today, I found a little shop full of old second hand movies. It was all Japanese until I saw a few English translations. I recognized one name: Nagisa Oshima, a movie director that had his best times in the seventies. I was a big fan of him and what he made was truly amazing. The box that I found in this shop was in French (but also has English subtitles) with two of his best movies: “Empire of Passion” and “In the Realm of the Senses”, two masterpieces combining arts and pornography.
For the one called “Empire of Passion”, Nagisa Oshima even got a Palm in Cannes in 1978. It’s amazing to see how arts, cinema and pornography are combined in his work. Beautiful women, set ups, deep story-lines and hard core porn.. all in one. He even won prizes with it. Time has changed and I regret that porn has become so vulgar today.
My favorite movie of his is “In the Realm of Senses”, which about a young woman who gets totally obsessed with her lover and his dick. She cut his dick at the end of the Nagisa Oshima movie as she was afraid of losing him. Ok, that’s not an encouraging idea for us guys, I know, but I promise you that you’ll enjoy this masterpiece. In this update, I add some short passages.
Sad to say, I found out that Nagisa Oshima passed away in 2013 so I used this update to remember and honor this great artist.
